About me + Slow Living

Hi! It’s me, Monique

I am a licensed Esthetician and have a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, though I am no longer a therapist. Alchemy was born so I can make beautiful things slowly, because I cannot ‘office’.

The first products I created I made for myself more than 25 years ago because I love the aromatics and healing properties of plants. I’m still chasing the smells and often do experimental distillations ‘just for fun’.

When I’m not working on projects for Alchemy, I tend my garden and knit socks. One of my favorite ways to meet new people is by taking hands-on workshops.

I met my husband when we both worked for an independant bookstore. We’ve been together for thirty years, we like to travel; we’ve raised two kids; we share our home with two rescue dogs.

This quote defines one of my core values:

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

-William Morris

WHAT IS SLOW LIVING?

It’s a radical lifestyle in a culture that considers BUSY the norm and exhaustion a status.

Embracing SLOW is about creating a more contented life by:

  • re-claiming your leisure time

  • de-emphasizing “JOB” as a defining metric

  • acknowledging wellness has more worth than your ‘net’
